From the Diarios de Yucatan:

With "renewed spirit" it reopens Xcaret

The park receives 700 visitors during the first day:

The park Ecoarqueológico Xcaret again opened its doors to the tourism with all the services under "a renewed spirit with whom it has equipped the nature to it".

This first day 700 visitors arrived, after 55 days of incessant work to have all available one again: aquarium, delfinario, aviario, creek and in general all the services were again in operation. Still lack to raise three restaurants, but Xcaret opens with four, including one new one. Previous at the beginning of activities, the personnel in charge of the spectacles who offers the park made a parade by the Fifth Beach Avenue of the Carmen to announce the awaited opening.

Between the changes made by force causes greater figure than the spectacles that appeared in the theater Great Tlachco, now will be in the theater outdoors while the mentioned forum is reconstructed.

The difference is the gauging, since while the Great Tlachco has capacity to lodge 6.000 spectators, in the theater outdoors reach 3,000.

All the animals conserved the park, affirms the personnel of Public Relations, which allows to maintain the spectacle natural in renewed conditions.

Like in Riviera and Cancún, an intense campaign in mass media is made to give to know the reapertura the park and to inform to the tourists into everything what it offers that important attractiveness to them.

Local Bus/Transport Info for Josie from

(Be sure and verify this information prior

to visiting.) ;-)

From Cancun

You can rent a car and easily drive to Xcaret.

A taxi from Cancun to Xcaret will cost you between US $80 - $100 dollars one way only.

Public buses are available in the Bus Terminal (downtown) and cost about US $3.00 per person.

Playa Express or Mayab bus lines leave every 30 minutes from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the bus will leave you on the highway—about ½ mile from Xcaret’s main gate. You can take our little bus called the “Despeinado” [“Messy Hair”] to the Park’s main gate. The bus leaves every 30 minutes from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. This service is free.

You can take a taxi from your hotel in Cancun to the downtown bus station (approx. US $8.00 one way) or public transportation ($6.00 pesos per person).

From Playa del Carmen

You can take a taxi from Playa del Carmen to Xcaret at a cost of about US $15.00 for the 15-minute ride.

If you rent a car in Playa del Carmen you can enter and leave the park as many times as you want on the same day of your visit.

Or take public transportation from Playa del Carmen.

Autobuses Riviera Bus Line

Departures at 9:30 AM and 10:20 AM only. Rates: US $5.00 per persona round trip* Return at 3:15 PM and 8:45 PM only.

Arrival and Departure at Xcaret’s main gate.

Autobuses Maya Bus Line

Leaving every hour from 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Rate per person: US $3.00

The buses will leave you on the highway, one-half mile from Xcaret’s main gate.

A small bus called the “Despeinado” provides shuttle service from the highway to the main gate. It leaves every 30 minutes from 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM. Service is free.

From Cozumel

Take the Cozumel Ferry to Playa del Carmen. It costs about $85.00 pesos per person one-way. Service runs from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM daily. The trip takes about 45 minutes.

Xcaret offers a tour leaving at 9:00 AM Monday through Saturday from the office located near the exit of the Playa del Carmen ferry dock, next to Sr. Frog’s restaurant.

***Verify that cruise ship, ferry and bus (returning from Xcaret) schedules mesh before reserving an excursion.***

From Calica

Xcaret is right to one side of Calica, a maximum of 5 minutes by car. Just take a taxi in Calica; its should cost about US $10.00 to the Park.

From the Riviera Maya

You can rent a car and it’s very easy to get to Xcaret. Then you can enter and leave the Park as many times as you want on the same day that you visit us.

It’s really easy to take a taxi from anywhere on the Riviera Maya. The cost will depend on the distance between your hotel and Xcaret.

From the Costa Maya

Costa Maya Port is located between Majahual and Ubero, small cities near the state capital of Chetumal, about 3 hours from Cancun.

We don’t have a tour that provides transportation from that port. A good option would be to rent a car or take a taxi.

Please check with your travel agent to see if your cruise ship makes calls at other ports that are closer to Xcaret, like Calica, which is only 5 minutes away.
