Royal Sands Villa ?

We are trying to decide between a AI or staying at a Royal Sands Villa. Does The Royal Sands Villa have restaurants within walking distance other than the hotel restaurants? How are the prices at the onsite restaurants and bars? How much for a mixed drink? Beer?

Happy hour is half price at all Royals. The Sands is adjacent to Plaza Kukulkan with Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, a Mexican restaurant (I forgot it's name), plus several others. Across the street is LaDestilleria, Puerto Madero and Harry's. Not much is more than a few minutes by bus. It's a good location.

Prices at the on site restaurants are decent. Not outrageous and the food is good. If you are big drinkers or love buffets you should probably stay at an all inclusive. The Royal Resorts are great vacation spots and are always our choice.

There's also free wifi resort wide, room delivery service for food, a mini market on site as well as restaurants, swim up bars, two pools, spa, etc. It's a beautiful resort.

just returned from a stay at a beachFRONT royal sands phase II 2 bedroom unit. phase 2 is the smaller section and we absolutely loved it!!! not as crowded and quieter than phase 1 (phase 1 is very nice). we prefer relaxation during the day at the beach while others may prefer organized activities. don't cook on vacation but love the full kitchen for the full refrig and storing snacks and morning coffee as well as late night snacks and leftovers from dinners easily reheated in the microwave. Excellent location for easy access to all of cancun. had to go to the lobby for wifi access though. no wifi in the room. you can try to book directly through an owner at redweek.com, tugs or even ebay or go to the royals resorts website. they have a few resorts in cancun.

You can rent through www.royalweek.com, mytimesharevacations.com, royalrentalsbyearl.com as well as tug2.net, redweek.com, etc. The Royal Resorts also run specials and rent directly...www.royalresorts.com.

The wifi access points have always been in the restaurants and lobbies so if your villa is in a direct line to one of those you will get wifi in your villa. They are working on getting through all of the villas, though.

We also like the Royal Caribbean and Royal Islander. There is a free shuttle connecting all of the Royal Resorts. These two sit next to each other and are about 10 minutes further down the beach.

You will love the Royal Sands - especially if you are traveling with your family. Having the extra room on vacation is soooo nice!!! You'll be hooked like the rest of us!

The prices at the resort are very reasonable. Lunch by the pool runs around $8 for burgers, chicken sandwiches, nachos etc. The food is good and the portions are very big. Drink prices are very reasonable....they have happy hour from 3-7 every day and a large (shake size) margarita runs around $5....I think a beer is around $2. They also give out free chips/salsa at happy hour.

There are a lot of great restaurants that are close by or a quick bus/taxi ride away. I like the idea of going out at night and leaving the resort for a little while. Some of our favorite restaurants are: Puerto Madero, Cambalache, La Parilla & El Fish Fritanga!

You will most likely get a better price booking through an owner.
