Weather in Cancun in August??

Okay we are trying to decide where to go for our honeymoon.

We were thinking Cancun but people keep freaking me out with...During Hurricane season??

So anyone who has been during August how was the weather? or tips?

I thought finding the resort that would be the best all inclusive and not 30 miles away would be the hardest thing...nope..its now back to square one. Any advice and suggestions would be great.

We are trying to keep tickets and stay for all inclusive to under 4k. so if we spend that much I don't want to find out weather was raining the whole time and the sun didn't show itself ever. We live where it rains we don't have to pay extra for that.

Even though August is technically hurrican season, the risk is very low. I travel in August every year. Two words - hot & humid. It's tolerable sitting at the beach or the pool, but once you get street side it's tough. Not the type of weather I would plan an excursion in.

My friends ask me quite often "Why do you go to Cancun in August?"...My kids are off school, the prices are pretty good and here in Toronto it is also hot and humid...so I prefer to be by the beach, with a cool drink in my hand. You will encounter some occasional showers (5 minutes or less). Last year we had 5 minutes during the night and that was it for our two weeks stay. I have been going to Cancun since 1976...never encoutered an hurricane...knock on wood. My family and I are going back for three weeks in August...see you there!

We often visit CUN in August for one last shout out to summer. It is hot but cooler than at home in DFW. I like the prices and the type of visitors during that time, lots of Europeans and Nationals. Just be flexible if a hurricane is brewing and you are forced to change your destination. Have fun planning your trip.

Thanks everyone. I have looked in getting a travel protection package. If one comes along...which we have some crazy luck (so it just might!) then obviously we would just have to go another time.

Any recommendations on a great AI resort for honeymooners???

I agree with Zoe-cat...Hot, hot, and more hot ( with a great chance of humdity )....We have been there in late August many times for many reasons ( kids back to school by the end of the month, less crowded ).

BTW, the Royal Resorts are known to be able to withstand Cat. 3 hurricane winds ( they are actually used as hurricane shelters).

August in Cancun is actually cooler than many parts of Texas, but the humidity is a killer. Do your excursions and shopping in the morning and spend the afternoons "hydrating" by the pool.

When you go out, do all the sensible things, head cover, coverup, plenty of water, etc. You can get sunburnt through a tee-shirt. I never believed it until it happened to me.

The hurricane thing is simply a roll of the dice. I know Palace Resorts has a hurricane policy for cancellations and re-booking (I don't know the details off hand).

There are a lot of great AI's in Cancun. I'm a Palace member and, of course, prefer the Palace properties. Their 5 properties in Cancun are all in the top 15 rated in TA. Look at Sun Palace. I think you can fit that and tickets into your budget.

Otherwise, check the TA reviews for top resorts in Cancun, look at websites and Orbitz, Expedia, etc.

As in The Royal Cancun? Or a different resort??

I think since we are from Oregon we are more worried to be hit with all day rain. :-)

Would like to recommend Excellence Riviera Cancun or Excellence Playa Mujeres. Have stayed at both. They put banners on your door for honeymoon/anniversary. And I believe they have a bottle of champagne/wine and a fruit basket in your room when you arrive. All rooms are junior suites with spa tub. Both places are all adult all inclusive. Both places have great spa's. Several pools on property, as well as being on the ocean. Must confess that the beach and ocean in their areas is not the best, but the resort does clean the beach every day. We arrived in Aug. of 2007 at ERC 2 days after a hurricane hit the area and there wasn't any sign of damage. It was HOT AND HUMID. From our past trips the service, food, and everything else was great. Some people on Trip Advisor have given some poor reviews, but I'm not sure what they were complaining about as we never experienced what they were upset about.

And, by the way, CONGRATULATIONS!. Have a great life together.

We liked ERC enough to return their on Apr. 2nd to celebrate an anniversary and my wife's birthday.

I was referring to the 5 Royal Resorts in Cancun: Royal Sands, Royal Islander, Royal Caribbean, Royal mayan, and Club Internationale.....These are all " hurricane proofed". BTW, they are not AI's....

My suggestion would be for Sun Palace or another adults only (NO KIDS) for your honeymoon that time of year. We spent ours at Cancun Palace late June/early July many years ago, but that was before Palace had an adults only.
