A New "Baby Boomer Town" to be built by Tulum

There is a mega-project in the works to be built on over 1,000 acres of land down by Tulum. It is described as "low impact" on the environment--will be called "Tankah" and will aim at the "baby-boomer" market--both tourists and those who wish to live here. There will be all the necessary infrastructure for homes, condos, hotels, medical services, etc. Total investment is estimated around one billion dollars. It will begin within the next 2 years. More as it happens.

Agree, Katzgar. They are always good at big talk and little action. Or no financing.

Interesting, there so many condos for sale in Riviera Maya, and they going to build more? Sounds to me like Miami area all over again.

No doubts here that further development will occur, when is the question, particularly as Tulum strikes out on it's own. I've been reading the last few days about the (for years) on again, off again, on again, off again etc. etc. proposed Tulum/ Coba area Airport plans. Right now from this perspective without an airport, "major" development in the Tulum area is a pipe dream w/o major transportation infrastructure. The entire region has been rife with land speculation due to the proposed airport from my understanding and the latest setback isn't about to allay major investors concerns.

Then there's the whole cultural, historical, environmental impact of such development...of course there wouldn't be any Cancun or RM without blowing those concerns out the window already, anyway.

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot... ;-)
