mexican liquor recommendation

Hi all,

Do you recommend any Mexican liquor that we could buy for gifts? Sorry I don't know how to narrow it down, as long as it's not super pricey. We are leaving next week.

Is it cheaper to buy from the airport or from a liquor store in Cancun or Isla Mmujeres?

Thank you

My favorite is Corralejo tequila. It's delicious, it's inexpensive and it comes in a beautiful tall blue bottle.

You can buy it at Walmart and probably the airport as well, but I'm sure the airport will be pricier.

If you want something unique to the area, try Xtabentún. Its something really different that is produced in the Yucatan, unlike Tequila and Mezcal.

even though I love Tequila, I'd go with Xtabentun as well. (I prefer Vallisoletano over D'Aristi) It's easy enough to find and often souvenir shops run it at a 2x1 price. This is rum based, usually less than $20 for two bottles)

Agavero is another one I like to bring back for gifts because the bottle is different. this is a Tequila Liquere. It's sweet. Fairly inexpensive.

Kahlua. Just about every gift shop has some kind of deal on this stuff too. Can't say I know the current going price since I HATE coffee flavored anything. They used to have a Mayan Bottle. (it's a bit bottle though).

Not to say I dont love to sip (thats sip not shoot) a good tequila myself but was only trying to think of a unique drink from the area. Also the other suggestions given by BSQ are good ones.

Xtabentún!! For sure!

Tequila is from Jalisco...Xtabentún is from the Yucatan. :)

Thank you all!

great info!

Xtabentún looks very interesting. (When I searched it on the net, D'Aristi seems a lot more common than Vallisoletano)

I looked into every one of them and I might get a bottle of each if possible lol. Just don't know how much I can drag back :P

I think the D'Aristi brand is the most prevelant. Also a limit to how much alcohol I can, or will , drag around. Raally has to be something special.
