coconuts safe to eat??

Yesterday I grabbed a green coconut from a tree near the university del caribe. When I got home, I made the nut into a cup, added some rum & nestle lime & drank a bit..

Later, I met a guy who told me not to eat/drink from coconuts on the Atlantic coast; only Pacific coconuts are ok, he said. I asked why & he said something about bugs (or germs).

I thk he's bonkers (& i haven't gotten sick, so far).. just wondering if anyone knows what he's on about. I assume that, eg, giardia/cryptosporidium cysts in the ground water cant get into the coconut water??

As long as the coconut is fresh and ripe, you're fine to enjoy them.
