Departure tax for Canadians transiting through the US?

Hello,

I have read the sticky on the side but still not sure how this applies to our situation. We are Canadians going back this Sunday, but the flight is not direct, and connecting through the US. On the way here we connected through the US as well and marked NYC (our connecting point) as the destination from which we are entering Cancun (which was the case)

Will we have to pay the departure tax or not, given the destination? I bought the ticket online so can't ask an agent.

nd if we have to pay: we don,t have the cash in USD. Is it possible to pay with Canadian $ (or peso) or with credit card?

Thanks!

You don't have to pay. Already included.

There is no departure tax payable in Canun if you are travelling to the US or Canada. It is included in the price of your ticket.

The ONLY people who have to pay this tax separately are people travelling to the UK on a CHARTER flight. The tax can always be paid in pesos, sterling or Euros but US dollars are hit and miss.

But, to reiterate, Spartac, you will NOT have to pay this tax at Cancun. You already paid it when you purchased your ticket.

If you look at the ticket price information on your tickets, in the list of taxes and fees, you should see something called Mexico Departure Tax.

as stated above you don't have to pay departure fee. We are from Calgary and have connected through Houston the last two trips - we did not have to pay departure tax at the airport, it was included in our ticket price.
