Beach Water Quality?

Is there any info out there on the sea water quality in Cancun, especially around Le Blanc. Don't want to get a mouthful of sea water and get sick for days. Is sewage pumped out to sea or is it treated inland?

Cheers.

I don't think you have a worry one. You can walk out into the water until you can't touch bottom and still see your feet. It's crystal clear. However a big gulp of salt water may cause a stomach problem

there most certainly is sewage pumped to sea but not in Cancun hotel zone, go around Porto Morelos or Moon palace and you can often smell raw sewage

Local news reports typically generate results from government based water testing for the beach areas on a regular basis and those reports typically indicate little to no issue with Caribbean side Cancun swimming and use. In short, the beach areas of Cancun's primary Hotel Zone meet typical standards for use. The government sewage plants reportedly process and purify all water before discharge to meet health standards,

Of note, in Cancun's early days, there was likely and may still be older development that discharged sewage directly into the lagoon with little to no processing for purification. Hence, I would not recommend the lagoon and have not for years for water based activities. Efforts by local government to clean up the lagoon have been ongoing for years but the impact thus far appears minimal.

Outside of the main Cancun Hotel Zone, many of the "compound" style resorts may have their own septic systems, developed to local safety codes, that in recent years have resulted in contamination and seepage into the waterways due to the porous soil and rock conditions of the Yucatan.

Overall, one of the largest problems with the water is phosphates, basically a non human concern, that impacts marine life, particularly the coral reefs due to run-off, ground water leeching and discharges.
