Just read about the tragic drowning at the Oasis Cauncun (latest TA review). Sadly I have seen similar reports of deaths of young people in party resorts in Europe (Magaluf, etc) recently. My sincere condolences to all those involved.
I have been reading reviews of these places out of curiosity as I have teenagers who will soon be old enough to go to these places, a thought that fills me with horror!
Young people in large groups get high spirited and up to silly antics even when they HAVENT't been drinking. Add alcohol into the equation, even just a small amount if they're not used to drinking, and things could quite easily get dangerous, especially in a foreign country, far away from home and parental control. I have seen reports of drink spiking, rapes, terrible accidents, as well as what should have been preventable causes of death.
Maybe the minimum age of the person booking the room should be raised? I don't know. I'm not saying young people shouldn't drink. I allow my teens to have a few drinks on holiday but in a supervised way, but who knows what they would be like let loose in an AI with peer pressure ?? I can only hope that they would be sensible but I would fret none the less! Anybody else in a similar situation?Edited: 29 September 2013, 04:30
