Apple / USA3000 just changed my flights :-{

Doylestown travel called me this morning:

Instead of non-stop both ways, we now have to stop at BWI.

At least before, the extra time in Cancun going in was worth it, for the dollars.

The early departure home was never worth it, but it was going to be quick.

Now, they've cut my time in Cancun on the 1st day, & it will take longer to get home after having to miss hotel breakfast.

They say:

Sorry. Our fault....but....... No exchanges even though we still have non-stops available. Our fault, but you cannot sub another airline. You get $50 per person voucher for travel to be used within a year. Non-transferrable.

Aq, I booked my parents on a non-stop to Phoenix on a major carrier (don't remember which one now). Purposely chose this flight although it was an hour drive to a different airport because it was non stop for my inexperienced-flier parents.

I was highly upset when they switched it to a layover in St. Louis. Then they switched the times (just slightly though) more than once. And they switched their seats so they weren't even sitting together! But in the end it worked out okay. The layover gave them a smoke-break and they got to sit together.

Appears this does happen with all carriers, not just USA3000, or Apple. Don't have to like it, but it is a fact of life.

I really do like that the seating chart will be more empty on the way to Baltimore. Something for my knees to be grateful for.

happened to us last friday on american airlines, purposfully took the early non stop from Chicago, so we would be in cancun by noon, and AA cancelled the flight rerouted us through Dallas and we didn't arrive in cancun until 5:30 pm, missing a complete day of sun. Since we were only going for a long weekend, it was big deal. We emailed them, and they are sending us flight vouchers, no idea for how many or how much. I'll let you know.

Nic......Ow! That really is awful for a short trip. Seems you don't get what you pay for in hotel time. In my case, it feels like I paid for the last day (although not reality) I don't get to use. I guess we really pay for the use of the bed.

No Danger of that much delay, since USA3000 has very set schedules. Flights from PHL-BWI-CUN are not unusual. The PHL departure times never change, & I've never seen a layover to anywhere other than BWI, out of PHL. Hope I didn't jinx myself just now ;-}

I've really been wanting to book a 3-day weekend trip but the return flight leaves at 8 am. Ridiculous for a short trip so I won't book it. Just can't pay that much to get down there and lose an entire day. It wouldn't bother me so bad on a 7-day trip, but just can't do it on a short one.

nicinchic....that happened to us with American Airlines out of Chicago....they boarded half the passengers ..and then cancelled the flight! (morning non-stop to Cancun out of Chicago). We were on an AA Vacation and there were 7 of us - 6 adults and a 3-yr old. Our only option (due to full flights on other routes) was the evening flight out of Chicago! That was late in departure, so we got to Cancun at almost midnight instead of 12pm!! Don't hold your breath about adequate compensation - for us it was $100 in vouchers for another flight per person - we would MUCH rather have had our day in the sun.......and, trying to entertain a 3 yr old in the airport ....we eventually made our way to Woodfield Mall and spent the day there! They tried to tell us it was weather related - brilliant sun in Chicago and all the way to Cancun!.......we think it was because the plane was less than half full...............evening flight crew more-or-less confirmed this.....NOT the best way to start a vacation (tho, we all did end up having a wonderful time)))) - AND, on the return flight, they up-graded us all to business class.

Here's what the situation tells me, USA3000 was going to fly individual flights out of BWI and Philly, to Cancun, on the same morning. Due to lack of passengers, and the Apple folks booking, they've combined the two departure points for one flight down to Cancun, making a purely economics decision.

And, once again, the perception out there is that Cancun is not yet recovered from Hurricane Wilma in the mindsets of many US citizens and hence, they have (most people book vacation trips many months in advance) and are reducing anticipated flights previously scheduled.

roxian what city did your parents fly out of? We are looking at Phoenix in June out of Chicago, Minneapolis or Milwaukee. All drives of at least 4 hours for us. I was willing to drive for cheaper flight and NON Stop!! I hate taking off and landing. And switching planes!

When we went to Cancun in Jan we flew out of Cedar Rapids IA to Denver and then Denver to Cancun. What a waste of time!! this was United. We were booked NWA and they changed our flight to be overnight in Milwaukee. They let us cancel and refunded us in full.

Dangers.......I am sure that had to be Apple's reason to change the flight. it could very well be changed if enough additional bookings occur.

The thing is, most independent travelers book vacations to fly on Tues, Wed, or Thur because prices are cheaper, for packages & for flights only. Most Saturday & Sunday bookings are from timeshare owners who are required to use Saturdays & Sundays.

The incorrect perception about the condition of the area is bound to be causing hesitation to book. The area tourism organization really needs to get the correct info out there to the major markets.

There are still some travel & review sites that have "damage" warnings posted that are not current.

I'm seeing all these commercials about visiting the "real" China, India, Singapore, etc. Nothing about the "real" Yucatan, or Cancun.
