While the Riu Palace Las Americas and Riu Cancun are great resorts, the ones that receive the most favorable comments for their kid's programs include:

Crown Paradise Club

Omni Resort

Royal Solaris

Dreams Resort

If you are simply looking for good resorts that cater to family travel, you may also want to consider,

Flamingo Resort

Barcelo Tucancun

Gran Caribe Real

GR Solaris

Have fun planning your family vacation in paradise,

Crown Paradise would be the best for the kids hands down. Great waterpark with lots of slides. There is also Club Jetix with video games and a movie theater. The kids club has evening hours where they take them to dinner and then off to the kids disco, so the parents can have a quiet dinner alone. There are also childrens shows a couple of nights a week. The ruins of El Rey is right across the street. My kids did not care too much for the ruins, but loved the dozens of iguanas that roamed the grounds. No market or shopping within walking distance, but a short bus ride away. Make sure and walk few hundred yards north on the beach to the public beach area to mingle with the locals.
