Without question, the best beaches in the Cancun area (In my opinion) are the beaches at Puerto Morelos. They are reef protected, very few waves, very wide and flat. There are pictures taken within the past 2 weeks at

Mina,

The hotel zone comprises the 7 shaped island bordered by the Bahia de Mujeres on the north (more sheltered, calm waters) and the Caribbean on the east (more waves, more turqoise water). The beaches are all beautiful and you should choose based on your personal choices. If you like the wave action, stay on the long arm of the 7. If you want totally quiet, calm water, stay on the upper part of the 7.

It is true that some of the beaches are in flux. They are not static. They were restored after Wilma and will come and go naturally. Check webcams and individual resort reviews to find where the beaches are gorgeous right now. We were just at the Royal Islander before Christmas and the beach there was wide and had no drop off.

Mina,

In my opinion the best beach is in Cancun. Even after Wilma just about all beaches have been restored. I will be in Cancun in April, Check out this website: wwwroyalresorts.com

0n the above website is recent pictures of the beach and resort....

It depens on what you want. I go to Cancun for the crystal clear water and white sand.
