Isla Mujeres

We were thinking of taking the ferry over to Isla, but what is there to do over there? Is there shopping and a good beach? What is a good place to eat? Is it a half a day trip or an all day?

Thanks!

Yes, it is definitely worth your time. Rent a golf cart and tour the small island. It is fun and there are places to stop and eat. You can probably do it in half a day. We always stop at The Reef and have a few drinks because we are members of the Avalon Grand. I believe there is a nice beach at the North end of the isle but we have not been there yet. We have reservations for a trip to Cancun in May and we are looking forward to going to Isla Mujueres again too. Have fun.

We have been going to Isla for about 20 years having actually stayed on the island for the last 5 or 6. We love the fact that it is still pretty much the old style mexico. There are no fast food places but tons of excellant places to eat. When you take the ferry over there will be several people trying to get you to rent a golf cart, take a day trip, fish, snorkle etc.. All are great experiences - the golf cart rental is about 50$ for the day (I say go all day) and you can tour the entire island. The south side has a park to go snorkling and the north side has the famous beautiful beaches. It is great fun to go on a snorkling trip with someone from the coop - we always go with a fellow by the name of Manual Hernandez. Please go - you will love this place!!!

Where does the ferry depart from? We will be staying at Riu Caribe or Dreams at the top of the 7.

Also, what part of the island does the ferry arrive at?

Thanks,

Mike:

The Ferry to Isla Mujeres that is the closest from Dreams is on Playa Caracol. It some some 5 minute walk from Dreams toward downtown. The ferry from there normally leaves at 9AM; 11AM; and 1PM. Returns at 12N and 5PM. All of the ferry trips go to "downtown" Isla. There are other ferry departure points, that go and return, almost all day. But from the others you will have to take a bus or taxi back to the top of the 7.

Or you can take a taxi to Puerto Juarez and take the ferry over. This is a fun trip to take cause you get outside of the tourist area to see the real mexico. It is generally cheaper as well. Here is a website that will tell you more! www.travelyucatan.com/isla_mujeres_ferry.php

you can also check out Cancun attractions or use your search engine type in isla mujeres and choose a site, I did this yesterday and printed off coupons for some of the restrarants and golf cart rentals. There are also a ton of pictures that have been posted you just need to click around . My friends and I plan to make a day there in April when we go .

does anyone know the best beach bar that we can visit while we are there.

You gotta do this....Last year we took a tour to Isla on a catamaran. It was a blast. It takes about 45 minutes and you stop and snorkel at a reef. Then they take you to the island where you can rent a golf cart by the hour and shop. After that they take you for a buffet lunch on another part of the island. Actually you do lunch first. Then you get back on the catamaran and come back to cancun. This is all inclusive and they have a big tequila party on the way back. The staff was very entertaining and ALOT of fun. The boat catamaran leaves from a hotel a little ways down the street. We actually walked back to the hotel after the excursion, with 2 kids! It's an all day excursion for just $51 per adult. You can find this at Cancunalltours.com. We're going to do this again this year when we go. Everybody had a great time and you get to meet people from all over.

Does anyone happen to know how far away this is from Riu Palace Mexico? Too far? Does anyone recommend a specific hotel on Isla Mujeres that tends to be more upscale?maybe even all inclusive? Thanks!!

What is the best (closest) ferry to Isla Mujeres if you are staying at the Ambiance Villas? Price? Ferry times/schedule? Thanks in advanced!
