Whats with the latest El Coz review??? Is it really that bad??!!!
NO, it's not THAT BAD !.....read my review on El Coz titled Another Day In Paradise if you want the truth......Obviously this person thought they were in Disney World, and figured if they sat around and complained they would walk away with a free vacation......I can honestly say everything this person "puked out" is an out and out LIE! It's amazing how thousands of people have a wonderful time at the El Coz....and out of the blue a rewiew is posted that says the total oppisite.....go with the averages.....
Ditto ditto ditto, I have a hard time believing this is an actual review from someone that stayed at El Coz, there are so many little details that just don't add up:
if he just returned in early May, when the hotel is half empty, there is no one claiming thatched huts, chairs by the pool, or hammocks at 6am as there's plenty, the early morning claiming only happens in peak season...
staff at the hotel are not allowed to carry cel phones during work hours, they have lockers and must place their personal stuff in them before punching in, and security is always checking...
the Concierge, where you make the reservations for La Veranda dinner, is a very nice lady named Ana, to confuse her with the timeshare people is a little naive...
there are 2 restaurants for dinner, not 1
"insects crawling all over the food"???? come on, El Coz just received the ISO 9000 recognition for the food and beverage department, this statement (like most of this review) is absolutely, 100% false...
"soiling towels and sheets"??? what, no one taught you how to go to the bathroom...?? pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez....
filthy pools, deck & beach area??? wrong, there's round the clock staff cleaning the entire hotel, as hundreds of reviews have attested to...
Who is this person? Why are they trashing El Coz??? This person registered May 9th, the same date the "review" was posted....
I do remember a family here back in December, who wrote a very similar review, claiming their "little baby girl" was ill from the food, and after days of vomiting and diahrrea the hotel charged them 65 dollars to clean the bathroom, well it turns out that what really happened was that the little baby girl, 17, came back from Frogs completely drunk, and went to the bathroom on the bed (1 & 2), vomited all over the room, including the drapes, and was charged 65 dollars because the hotel had to hire steam cleaners to clean the room, could it be this same person, who just can't stand to see so many nice reviews?? I'll let the readers decide if they believe this person, I certainly do not.....
Could this possibly have been written by a competitor of the El Coz? Everything is so totally false and wrong that it cannot be a real review. Does Tripadvisor have any way to check this out?
It's reviews like this that simply give us another opportunity to show the ignorance of the poster, and the utter nonsense of their comments. He claims to be a world traveler, NOT! I've also traveled the world over the last 30 years. And I can honestly say if he considers El Coz a dump based on his travels, well, he hasn't seen a dump. From the Far East to Eastern Europe, to the South Pacific, I still consider El Coz one of the best deals out there. I can't justify one comment the poster made. Simply rubbish. As has Morgy and many others, we've tried others, we've toured others, and for my $$$, El Coz is the best deal. We've stayed there for years, did so again in April, and will be backthis fall. Have never in all these years been sick, have never been treated unkind in any way, the service has been awesome every time, the entire facility always clean and I will remain a devoted fan of El Coz. For what we want and need in a resort on Cozumel, El Coz offers it all. If the poster wants a 5 star, treat me like I'm royalty, don't come to Cozumel. If you want great service, an absolutley gorgeous setting, great staff, honest and friendly people, and a great atmosphere, then Cozumel and El Coz is the place.
OK i'll ignore it then. Thanks everyone. We 're going in August and really looking forward to it.
Just wanted to add that I checked into the recognition El Coz received recently, which I misquoted as being ISO 9000, this is the next step for the entire hotel, and for now the exact recognition El Cozumeleño received is the Distintivo "H" which is described as follows:
The Distintivo H ( H Distinctive) is the recognition that is granted by the Secretariat of Tourism, and that is guaranteed by the Secretariat of Health, to the lenders of services of foods and drinks that handle foods with high levels of hygiene standards, and that ask for it of voluntary way and fulfill specific requirements in the following areas: Food reception, Storage, Handling of chemical substances, Refrigeration and freezing, kitchen area, sanitary food Preparation, Water and Ice, Services for employees, trash/recycling and handling, Control of plagues, Personnel, Bars.
It demonstrates that it is a Company committed with the education of his workers, it takes direct actions to foment the education of those who conforms it.
The Distintivo H is more than a Certificate, is a system of securing of quality in food hygiene and establishes the bases to create excellence.
Program H is a designed strategy to improve the quality of the tourist services in the matter of Food Hygiene.
At the moment the Distinguishing H is a factor of competitiveness for the establishments that offers services of foods and drinks.
The program of Distintivo H has two main targets:
• Diminish the incidence of diseases transmitted by foods,( food transmitted diseases or ETA' s), in national and foreign tourists.
• Improve the image from Mexico at world-wide level with respect to the security in the matter of prevention and control of ETA’.
Just read the negative review!! What a LIE!!!! It sounds to me that the poster hasn't really been to El Coz. We were treated very well, no employees with cell phones or oogling guests. The management was always present making sure things were just right. Our room was spotless and was wet mopped, I think daily. I'm sure that if things were truely that bad and you brought it to the staffs attention it would be fixed.....unless one is a chronic complainer and nothing can fix that. I too have been around a fair amount and feel terrible when someone trashes a hotel that works so hard to be outstanding...... workers rake the beach at sunup every day. Everyone smiled and said hola....except the rude wedding party from out east....look out world we're here so everyone must serve us.... what a way to go through life!!! We had the time of our life and can't wait to go back!! If you have a trip booked at El Coz get ready to have a blast!!! If you are always looking for something to complain about, PLEASE spend a bunch more $$$ and go where they will wipe your a-- for you( but I'm sure a complaint would come from that too...YukYukYuk.
I would never make a decision on accommodations based on one review. This site is great as it gives you a wide variety of opinions. Between them all, I think you can make a pretty good choice that you'll be happy with.
I'll throw in my 2 cents. We've stayed there twice and will be back this September. This person is full of B.S. We never had any problems, the staff are great.
Birds in the outside eating area? So what? I thought it was cool and had fun watching them sneak up on plates. If you get up you simply put a napkin over your plate. Dogs and cats in the eating area? Who cares? It is an OUTSIDE eating/buffet area - if you don't like it, take your food and go eat in your friggin' room! Again, yes - being outside and having food around can = flies, just like it does anywhere you go. What we did (and do when we're eating outside at home) is put a small amount of food on the table away from us as bait and let them have that, it keeps them busy.
Bats? (and here's where I think these people are big city dwellers), Who cares? I like bats, they eat bugs. What does this idiot think? That they'll "get in their hair?". The first time we stayed at El Coz they first put us up on a first floor of the North building (and very graciously moved us up to an upper floor the next day), and that night we sat out on the patio, listening to the waves and watching the bats fly around. Guess what? It was cool!
No night life? Guess what? Stay in Cancun!
Resort shuts down at 11:00? You'd like the staff to stand by 24 hours a day for you? Any hotel in The U.S., besides casinos, does the same thing! Go to Vegas on your next vacation! Sounds like the perfect spot for you!
Frankly, I prefer the North building. Bigger, more flavor. We stayed in the South tower our last trip but will ask for the North this trip.
Lastly - there are hammocks now? Cool!
Just out of curiosity, I sent a message to the person that wrote the review in question, "honesty59", and asked what did they hope to accomplish with this review.....They were so caught up with bashing the place, they didn't even get the discription of the hotel straight....I did invite them to join this discussion to explain to us all, What ONE inccident led up to trashing such a wonderful resort as the ElCozumeleno.....
By the way....you might want to adjust that screen name a little.....you even got that wrong.....
