Doing Sea-Trek Helmet, what else in 9 hours we are there?

We are going to be in Cozumel in October off a Carnival cruise from 1pm-10pm.

We are going to do the Sea-Trek helmet excursion near Jeanies Restaurant, and since it is close to downtown, some shopping afterwards.

The Sea-Trek is only ~ 1-hour, and the shopping a couple of hours.

Any good ideas to fill the rest of the time.

No snorkeling, no beach etc.. but any short excursion or must sees? Thanks !

edit: forgot to mention 2 - 50 year old parents and 12-year old son.

You could do the San Gervasio Ruins. Take a cab to them, and make sure you agree on a price to take you there and wait. Also, make good use of a guide. A non guided tour through these ruins will make it unfilled...

I think you would really enjoy the museum and "Discover Mexico". Save money by not booking excursions thru the crusie line.

that would be unfulfilled in my first post, and a sailboat ride on the Tucan "Cozumel Sailing" would also be a lot of fun.

Enjoy

P.S. This ended up being harder than I thought. No beach, no snorkeling. I was completely lost. Beach Clubs are fun too, but if you don't want to be away from downtown or at a beach, then the above suggestions would be good.

Thanks for the ideas...

I know snorkeling & beach is THE thing to do.., but while my wife and I are well traveled.. we cannot swim !!.. we made sure our 12 years old swims like a fish since he was young...

Another vote for the museum--and not buying any excursion for the cruise line. That likely doubles the cost and very little goes to the local operator.

You can do the Stingray experience even if you can't swim. Most of the touching and feeding is done standing in waist high water. You could then skip the snorkel part.

Your son would definately love it.

I'd go to Carlos and Charlies and see if they would make some of those really cool balloon hats for you to wear on your way back to the boat. Those guys are amazing!

You could probably get one of the taxis to give you a price for him to take you around the island. The east side is gorgeous, and you could get around the island in the time you have.

If I were you, after the helmet diving, I'd get the taxi around the island, and do the shopping last because at least, at the end of the day, you are close to the ship and you can see the sunset on the west side from a nice terrace on the square.

There are plenty of places to stop off and have a bite to eat or a full meal during the trip around the island.

Have fun.
