I'll try to keep this as brief as possible:
Stayed at Cozumel palace a couple years ago and really liked it. The water was amazing. Sea life outside the hotel was ok, distance from dive sites was far.
We are going back in May and I was hoping to try a new resort. I want to find a place that has the same clear waters as Coz Palace with at least comparable sea life. Willing to walk up/down the beach a bit for it (for snorkel). My wife doesn't dive, but will snorkel. Also looking for decent food (not burgers and fries) and alcohol.
Good water for swimming around.
At least ok sea life for snorkel.
Decent food, Mexican food preferred over American
Someplace walkable for cheap massages on the beach
Swim up-bar, ok liquor (thinking Don Julio or 1800 tequila)
Don't want to be any closer than coz palace to the cruise ships, those things are annoying. Also don't want to be around a ton of kids, Coz Palace wasn't adults only but the kid level was low, so that was fine.
Don't care list:
Beach is a plus, but I would rather have a better ocean than beach. Which is what made Coz Palace amazing.
So far I am looking at:
Aura (about $2000 w/ airfare), Nice looking property, on the same long beach stretch as occidental/ibero/allegro. A really weird mix of reviews.
Occidental or Iberostar( about $1700) Crappy looking rooms, but reviews are positive and the price is cheap. Critters at Ibero look entertaining.
Back to Coz Palace ( about $2200) great, but I want to try a different resort. Also, without a beach, a car would be necessary to explore a bit.
Are Saber and Aura & Occidental and Allegro same property, then they just give you worse food options/rooms for getting the cheaper? Seems weird to have them on same property but to try and restrict you from amenities.
I know I am missing a lot of resorts, so fill me in. I'm having a hard time wading through the forums at this point. Especially if you are looking for a bit of snorkel.
