family excursions

We will be coming into Cozumel from 9:30 until 6pm as part of a cruise stop. Does anyone have any excursions or companies that they recommend? We will have two boys 10 and 14. thanks

The Tucan Sailing tour might be fun with the boys...you can email them and see if your day is available for more of a family oriented trip. They aren't usually over the top crazy, but I know with my boys, similar ages, I would prefer it be kid friendly.

You don't need to book excursions. Most of the happenings are easily done on your own and you'll save a ton of money. Grab a cab and go to Punta Sur Park. The kids will enjoy climbing the lighthouse...the views are wonderful. There is good snorkeling there and a lagoon with crocs and birds etc.

You should check out www.cozumelparks.com/

And have you read the topic in the box to the right entitled "One Day In Cozumel"?

The Tucan sail is great but if I was on Cozumel for only a day I'd rather tour the whole island.

Hire a cab for the day.

Both are great ideas. The Toucan was a blast and the spinnaker ride unique. Traveling to Punta Sur is fun. It's more about what you guys want out of your visit. We've done both and liked them both but sway more to the Toucan for the fun factor.

Forget the high-priced excursions. When you get off the ship hail a taxi for a 10-15 minute drive to the Money Bar for the best snorkeling in the Carribean (we've snorkeled all over the Carribean).

The Money Bar is located on a small bay and rents equipment for less than $10 bucks per person (mask, snorkel, fins). You access the water from steps right at the bar and swim out to see an amazing array of fish.

We will be returning by Cruise in March for our 12th visit and discovered this on our 3rd visit when our youngest was 5. Our kids are now in their teens and early twenties but still want to go to Money Bar Bay on every Cozumel trip to snorkel.

Plus, when you are done snorkeling the bar makes a great mojito and it is easy to get a cab back to the port.

HINT: Go early as the bay is rarely crowed before afternoon when the Tour Companies/Excursions show up around 2ish and offload alot of people who would have paid a lot more than you did to snorkel.

Robin you should take a taxi to Playa Palancar and go on the snorkel boat from there. Takes you to the offshore reefs and it's awesome! It's about an hour snorkel and you go to Colombia Shallows and Palancar gardens,, you can see tons of stuff including rays and turtles.. If you like MB you will love Colombia!

IMO Money Bar is not on a bay and since Hurricane Wilma it's never been the best place to snorkel from shore.
