Driving from Airport

Is there anyway to avoid driving thru town to get to our Paradise Condo rental (near Chankanaab) from the airport? If anyone knows any other way to get there, please let me know. Thanks.....

Not really. Driving thru town is no big deal...takes like 6 minutes. Traffic moves along well on Melgar. If you try taking any back streets through town there are a ton of stop signs etc...unless you take 30th and even that has alot of stop lights. Just drive south on Melgar and keep your eyes on the road while everybody else is oogling the ocean etc.

Actually there is.........just go around the round-about and straight out the other side on avenida 65. You'll get to the "caracol" round- about where you do the same thing (just stay on 65)......keep going and going until the road turns to the right (no choice here) and after about a mile or less, you will see the water and a cruise ship area........take a left to get where you are going......not the most scenic but since you asked.........haha.

Totally agree with Betsy. Taking 65th. south is easy. There are just two traffic lights. One at Juarez and one on 11th. Other than that it there is no stopping. At the end of 65th. turn right and you will come to the ocean at Melgar.

Take a left at the light and head south and you will have avoided all the downtown traffic.

Taking 65a Ave is, of course, still driving through town.

Take 65th as described above but at the shells turn left and go east to the ocean. Turn right and take a leisurely drive south along the east side.

When you get to the end of the road by the entrance to Punta Sur, turn right and work your way west then north to your condo.

Be bold. Be daring. Be different.

Good advice from several for using the 65 route. It is the best way to go since you likely want to get to the condo ASAP upon arrival.

Taking 65 would certainly be the fastest. Having a MAPCHICK map in hand would be the handiest. But for the view, taking Melgar would certainly be the most beautiful for the price of 10 or 15 minutes more.

Well...unless you took COPilot's route, which is certainly "thinking out of the box" and would be a specatular way to get to your condo if your not in a hurry.

My opinion is that the Melgar route will be the safest. On 65th, you have beaucoup intersections. Each one is an opportunity to be hit by someone not familiar with local driving protocols.

I have not timed the difference in the two main routes suggested (ignore my east side scenic route for the moment), but even if Melgar took five minutes longer, that would be worth it for the safety benefit.

I totally disagree.......on 65 there are NOT any more intersections than Melgar AND the people driving on that road ARE mostly locals therefore ARE familiar with "local driving protocols"........way fewer tourists gawking at the seaside and driving mopeds that they have no business on, no cruise ship taxi congestion, no transport ferry congestion.........just sayin'.
