Japanese Ship

Next Wednesday will see the arrival of a Japanese cruise ship, the Asuka II . This will be the first Japanese ship in two years. The ship is a smaller luxury ship, as opposed to the massive Carnival ships often seen, and is on a round the world cruise. I always enjoy seeing a new ship arrive!

It will be at the Langosta pier in the center.

Any revenue for the island is good. When I was there to weeks ago there were 3 days in a week (including sunday) that no ships were in. I don't like how dependent the island is on the cruisers, but it is what it is.

I don´t like it either. You would think they would learn catering to only cruisers is not a good idea but seems they never learn. A friend in the tour business told me luxury ships like this one are not usually very good for business. They have the funds but have been there, done that and usually spend little on the island.

Last week there was a boat from Venezuela docked all week. Neat looking at night with all the masts lit up.

-My thoughts exactly.

I looked on the port schedule though, and it is not listed. Maybe they don't list the smaller cruise ships.

Since its an around-the-world cruise, maybe they will be in port more than a couple of hours. That way, guests may have more time to rent cars, eat in restaurants, patronize beaches clubs, swim the reefs, etc.

The only accurate schedule I usually find is the one posted on Cozumelinsider. She uses the official schedule put out by the port authority which is not put out far in advance for the next week.

I hope , as said, it will be in port more than a few hours. And being at the Langosta pier, it will help the merchants in the center.
