Taking cruise in June to Cozumel wanting to take kids to beach without paying $65 for adults and $45 for kids, Is it safe to take taxi to public beach and hang out for a few hours ? We don't snorkel and just want to let kids get in water then go eat and shop , Most all excursions are 4 to 5 hrs long , Any help would be nice !!! Thanks

Yes, it's safe. ALL the beaches are public on the island. If you go to a beach club you are expected to buy some food and drinks. There are many, many nice beach clubs that do not charge an entrance and you just pay whatever you consume in food and drinks. No excursions needed...they're just a big rip off IMO. You'll at least want a beach w/ bathrooms and a shower to rinse off...si? Make sure your kids have water shoes...some sand is course, there are sea urchins they could step on and some beaches have rocky entrances.

I would agree with Playa Palancar.. It's a beautiful beach and the food is good too. I would also recommend Club Cozumel Caribe on the North end however it's a bit more expensive... Paradise Beach is nice also but can be over crowded with cruisers... these are not AI so it's pay as you go.

Another vote for Palancar. Good beach, food and drink and less expensive than some. Another good thing is it is not sold on cruise ship tours so you get away from the mob scene.
