Carnival?

We will be on Isla Feb 2-9th (week of Fat Tues and Ash Wed). Is there a carnival or such running that week?

Sorry but you are going to miss Carnival on Isla. There is a ban on alcohol sales February 2 and 3 because of local elections. As a result the decision was made to move the Carnival celebrations one week earlier than actual Fat Tuesday.

So are you saying that you can't buy any alcohol on February 2nd and 3rd???? Does this include restarants or just stores? Please be more specific. Thanks!

Don't worry, I've been there before during an election and had no problem getting alcohol, although it was served in a coffee mug!

Does the ban refer to Isla only, or also Cancun?

Coffee mug? WOW! We arrive February 2nd on the island! I couldn't believe this when I read it. Does all of Mexico have the no sales of alcohol in grocery stores on Sundays? I remember that in Cancun last winter at Wal-Mart. Restaurants still serve though correct???

Am I reading this right? A trip that I booked nearly a year ago has been ruined by a local election? How can they move Carnaval to dates other than Fat Tuesday & Ash Wednesday? Am I going to get to see anything?
