Isla Mujeres Accomodations

I need recommendations for accomodations for our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) for an upcoming Christmas trip. We don't like big resorts. We prefer a cottage, cabana, etc with a kitchen and either on the beach or very close. We don't need TV or phone. Recommendations would be great! Thanks

There are lots of great places on Isla - here are two websites that show most places available on IM:http://www.isla-mujeres.net/accommodations.htm and www.islamujeres.info, which also has a great forum as well - both Q&A as well as chatter.

Here are some booking agents that have a good reputation that can assist you in finding the type of place you are looking for . . . you didn't mention a budget $$ amount. There are several apartments/houses that you can rent, though many will already be booked - I have an apartment booked for the Christmas break as well. http://www.kathrynstravel.com/

Hope that helps get you started! As well, get a map of Isla from the Mapchick at www.cancunmap.com. :)

Thanks for your advice and the websites. We are staying at Playa Gaviota in a beach unit. I used Kathrynstraveldotcom and Kathryn is great! I highly recommend her! The trip is a surprise for our children for Christmas - I have to keep quiet for a long time!! I am so excited!

Wonderful - so glad it worked out for you. Yes, Kathryn is great - I love to recommend her. I'll see you during Christmas break! Look for the folks with the white pasty skin - that will be the Alaskans. :)

Where are ya'll staying? We will be there with our three children, ages 5, 13, and 15. Coming from VA we will be pretty pasty, too! Nothing like spending Christmas break in the Caribbean. Last year we went to Puerto Rico for a week and had a blast! Hope to bump into ya'll!

We are going to be at Glady's apartment - with a 13, 15 and 17 year old - first time we are bringing the kids to Isla - we have been twice without them, so this is their big Christmas present! Email me in December - maybe we can plan to meet up, though it is a small island and we are sure to bump into one another. We will try to do the snorkel trip to Contoy with Capt. Tony - we can make our own group! There are a few other families coming from our town here as well - a few more with kids, so this will really be fun! :)

We also stayed at Playa Gaviota a few months ago through Kathryn's Travel. She is extremely helpful with ALL the questions we had. Use her knowledge of the area. That is one place that I will go back to. Our property was away from the business of town, which we prefer. Spend the $250 to rent a golf cart for the week and explore. The rates are basically the same everywhere. Get the map from Mapchick. Invaluable. Go to town, walk the beach, snorkle, and enjoy the inexpensive food.
