A good condo complex/island location for a laid back couple?

Hi, all. New to this forum so I hope I'm not beating too dead of a horse.

OK, so we're a couple 50ish considering a totally different type of vaykay for next year. Our normal gig is upscale all-inclusive but we are considering a more earthy experience on IM next year. We're looking for an experience involving possibly a condo that's right on a fab beach that's not overrun with kids--the kind of place where we can lug our own cooler of beer and hang out on the beach all day and then check out the assortment of great restaurants for dinner or even do our own thing in the condo's kitchen if we don't feel like heading out. Are our aspirations realistic? Any input is greatly appreciated!

If I was going to stay in a condo in Isla it would be at Nautibeach. Great location, nice pool. Lovely beach. Probably kids though, although that depends on when you're traveling.

Thanks, Jean. We usually go around this time of year so it shouldn't be as much of an issue (the kid thing).

Another option is Ixchel Condos next door to Nautibeach. Depending on what you like, Ixchel is more modern and sleek, with newer amenities and furnishings. Nautibeach is more "tropical" and charming, and IMO, has more "personality." But everyone's idea of what is perfect differs so make sure you check out both. These two are on Playa Norte, within walking distance of all the restaurants in Centro.

Another nice place is the Color de Verano apartments, especially the penthouse if you can get it. It's across the street from the beach, and is less expensive than either of the two above. However, it also lacks the amenities of the others: no pool, no restaurant, no bar, etc. But if you're just looking for a condo, take a look at this one too.

Also take a look at the third Top Question on accommodations, especially the first travel article listing many options.

The following agents represent many lovely properties, and all are reliable, reputable, and very knowledgeable. Take a look at their websites and the condos they represent.

We always travel the first week of September, and one of the advantages is that the kids are back in school. We stayed at Ixchel Beach last year and LOVED it, but be sure to get an oceanfront or penthouse suite. And we, too, are a 50-ish, laid back couple.

We are booked at Nautibeach in April for Mark Mulligan's Island Fest. Mark had reserved a block of 30 condos through the owners rental pool and that has now been "sold out" eight months in advance.

When I called to make a reservation they advised me "no vacancy." I have never been to Isla Mujeres and I scrambled on Trip Advisor to find a place to stay.

If you consider Nautibeach you can contact Isla Casita on Google. I was able to find a unit in Nautibeach that is outside the owner's rental pool that looks really nice. It is actually Unit #4 at Nautibeach. I was able to rent this unit cheaper than through the rental pool. Great location, great beach and steps from the pool and Sunset Grill where Island Fest will be held.

Ixchel Condos are always our first choice in accommodations for Playa Norte. You'll not be disappointed.

Thank you for all of your replies, everyone. We will check out Ixchel and Nautibeach when we visit. Sounds like those two and the rest of you are on our page!
