To Everyone on Isla Now

Whether residents or visitors, here’s hoping that Rina doesn’t cause damage, hardship, or anything more major than some rainy days. Stay safe and our thoughts are with you and Isla.

Same here. We saw first hand what hurricane Irene did this year as we got kicked out of the Outer Banks while on vacation. But more importantly all the damage it did and how it affected peoples lives, especially as it hit us when we got back home. Parts of New England are forever changed from the flooding rains. Hopefully you all get by this unscathed!

Latest report on wunderground (12:30 PM CDT) shows Rina passing thru the area as a Cat 1 hurricane. Expected storm surge is now down to 2-4' from 5-7' just earlier this morning. Real critical period will begin tomorrow morning and continue overnight into Friday, but high winds should begin arriving in the affected area this afternoon--probably take a while longer to reach Isla, seeing as though it is on the very northern end of the area.

The rain started just after 1pm. It was raining hard but has lightened up some. Everyone is boarded up & ready for the winds & flooding. Rina has lost some strength which is a relief. Most of the tourists left the Island. Almost all the shops & restaurants are closed. We are all just waiting to see how much water & wind we get tomorrow. We are hoping not to lose power for a long period of time. Will keep everyone posted for as long as possible.

Good Luck from this side as well folks, reports earlier today out of Cancun indicated that Isla Holbox has been evacuated and that tourists from Holbox and in some cases Isla Mujeres were being evacuated to downtown shelters in Cancun. As most probably already know, the situation has taken a turn for the best today but Hurricane Rina could still be a strong tropical storm or Cat 1 hurricane when she moves towards the area tomorrow. The entire region has been placed under an "Orange Alert" (Danger-High) by State officials and inbound flights are starting to cancel with potentially more anticipated.
