We went to Isla Mujeres for a day during our trip to Cancun-it was our favorite day on vacation. We were staying in Cancun at the Barcelo Tucancun, so we took a taxi to the ferry (we could have taken the bus, but it was early and we didn’t want to mess with it), which was $15 each way, and then the ferry was $7 per person round trip. We had pre-arranged a snorkeling trip through Aqua Adventures, who I highly recommend! The owner is American lady and she is excellent about responding promptly. She was the sweetest person ever—full of good information. I want to go back just to visit with her! We had purchased our Cando Maps, but it was so nice to have a guide from Aqua Adventures waiting for us to escort us to their shop. Once we arrived we were scheduled to snorkel at 9am; but the kids were all hungry, so Donna said-go ahead and eat then they would take us out. So, we did. The snorkeling was so awesome—the guide was fantastic about showing us things we may have overlooked had he not pointed them out. They also take pictures, which you can purchase on a cd for $25, which is great. Next we rented golf carts—what a fun experience, with the exception of our friends golf cart breaking down and not having a way to contact the company. So, we tied the two carts together and pulled them-it was hilarious-quite an adventure! Finally a local volunteer to call the company for us Which is good because the cord snapped! We went to Playa Tiburon to see the nurse shark-very cool and cheap-the kids loved it. We also went to the turtle farm-we were a little disappointed, but we may have been expecting too much. We went to Zama’s for the BEST mango margarita—that place is absolutely beautiful! Perfect place for a wedding! We drove to the furthest point South and it is so pretty watching the waves crash against the rocks. The shell house was neat too. We had lunch at Playa Lancheros, must admit we didn’t LOVE the tix n chix-must be an acquired taste But my son loved his cheeseburger! The bathrooms here are a little gross. We did not have time to see the Pirate place-we ran out of time. We did go past the cemetery-very interesting-like nothing we have ever seen before; I bet it is beautiful at night. We had to return our golf cart at 5pm, so we did, then we went to North beach—it is beautiful! We found a beach bar and had drinks and played in the beautiful water-it is so calm-unlike Cancun. The beach is so beautiful-sand like powder. We watched the sunset and then took the ferry back. We loved Isla so much, that next time we want to spend a few days there. There is so much to see, we ran out of time, but definitely plan on going back. Isla is such a neat little island and the people are so nice! Everything is so laid back and relaxed. Can’t wait to go back!!
