Son going to Yucatan with a college course over spring break to snorkel, jungle tour, climbing.... anyone heard of problems in the Yucatan?
Climbing might be a problem, since the Yucatan is so flat.
Other than that, and of course the usual assortment of political problems endemic to this country, there are no problems to speak of.
I would let my child go on a program to Merida. There are approximately 17 study abroad programs here in Merida (from US colleges) and all have good occupancy rates. Merida and the state of Yucatan ARE safe places.
He might fall in love with the place (or with a local, or both) and not return. That happened to me!
Me, too....39 years ago I came on a 3 month study abroad program as a college sophomore.... I'm still here, still happy and still love it.
I want to move there and open a business.
I hope organized crime doesn't intimidate Canadian owned companies over there. If anyone knows of bad stories of Canadians being harassed for opening a business..please post your story...
If it's a business distributing illegal drugs then you might have issues :)) Otherwise you should be fine. Extortion problems tend to be isolated to certain lawless areas (which exclude Merida) and are quite independent of race!
what will he climb in the yucatan?
Maybe a temple or two!
can he climb sideways?
