French Bakery?

Does anyone know if there is a good bakery in the centro area? I've read a few comments in blogs and other places that seem to reference them ("best beignets this side of Paris"), but no names are given. I can't recall seeing one in my travel there, but if there is, I'd like to stop next time.

La Flor de Santiago is worth visiting. See yucatantoday.com/es/…la-flor-de-santiago and yucatanliving.com/merida-restaurants/la-flor…

I don't know of a real French bakery in Merida... but things are popping up all the time. The best bread I know of is at Monique's Bakery. You can find her info here: https://www.facebook.com/moniquebakery

It's certainly not French, but Bisquets de Obregon, situated at the corner of Calles 62 & 61, has its fans on this forum, and is well known for its little cakes.

Thanks for the tips! I can't wait for my Jan/Feb trip, though I'm trying hard not to look past the week in Puerto Vallarta I have coming up for Christmas. Not used to having two trips planned at once....but I shouldn't complain.

If you havent been to a Mexican bakery - definitely check one out. There is a small one just off the main square - calle 62 before 59th. There's another huge one - I think on 59th heading toward Mejorada.

Los Biquets has great breads too.

Haven't tried the pastries yet but have heard fabulous things about Cafe Creme on 41 just off the Paseo Montejo

Bisquets de Obregon is terrible. Tasteless lumps of flour and fat in different shapes brought out to your table as if they were delicacies. Ugh.

Cafe Creme has a great reputation although I haven't been yet.

The best thing about Mexican bakeries is the white french style bread when it comes out hot and crunchy. The rest you can safely ignore.

Dont know about Bill, but conchas I can take or leave. OK but nothing special.

Pretty much agree with Bill about Bisquets. Not only is the bread nothing special but they charge high prices for it.
