Riu Tequila occupancy

Anybody know how the occupancy is looking at the Tequila now that everywhere seems to be getting back to normal. Cheers.

HI there, somewhereinlondon arrived there 3 days ago, I asked him the same question and he said it was pretty full at the moment. Heard from someone else that the Yucatan is about 50% full.

See you next week!! woohoo so excited

this is what somewhereinlondon said in full.....

I am sitting in the lobby, it is very lively, there is a casino setup causing much whooping and hollering, a towel art demonstration and also a singing Mexican string trio. I think the hotel is not full, but it is not too far off it.

For instance in the morning most of the swim up bar stools are occupied, but there isn't too much problem finding a shady lounger by the pool.

The hotel is a bit of a mixed bag really. The first room they offered us, 316, was pretty depressing, they said it was good because it is close to the lobby, but it was upstairs (with pushchair/young child) and stank of smoke. Plus the aircon was off.

We asked to change to a downstairs room, and they said they only had one at the back of the hotel. But actually that's not a problem. It's behind the kid's club, and not smelly.

The rooms are ok, two single beds pushed together, not sure if there's another bedding configuration, but it works ok for 2 adults + child, would rather two doubles though. The toiletries are very 3*, shampoo from a sachet, but who cares really, we bought a bottle of shampoo from walmart for $2.

Hotel food is ok really, lots of choice in buffets. The three restaurants: Mexican, Asian and steak are bookable in the morning, no problems getting a table it seems atm.

We tried the Mexican today, nice food really, what you'd expect in a medium-priced restaurant in terms of quality, though the dessert was poor (it looked like pastry tartlets, but the cases were in fact ice cream cone tops, not nice).

Drinks are worse than the food, the wine is undrinkable, the mixed drinks are quite drinkable, but mediocre, made using cheap spirits and cocktail pre-mix, and very weak.

The service is very obliging, e.g., no problems to change rooms, they said just bring the key back any time for the other room, but service is not fussy, e.g., you have to get your own cutlery at lunch.

Overall the effect is good, never 5*, 3.5* I would say, but very pleasant for it, obviously you can get better food and drink elsewhere, but then you spend maybe thousands more, and perhaps not as much fun.

Casino in the lobby Chrissy, like the sound of that. Partial to a wee game of poker or blackjack from time to time, purely recreational of course and not too serious. Lokking forward to it.

Gavin - if you play blackjack on casino night - go on Eder's table - he is the one who gets everyone shouting and having the most fun!

Yes the Yucatan is definitely much emptier. The pool area there is not too busy, and the restaurants are not either. The Tequila feels pretty full, big crowds for the shows in the evening.

Gav - I think it was either Monday or Tuesday night - it finishes at 9pm though so the show can start. The person with the most chips at the end of the night wins a prize (we won it when we were there!)
