Highly probable the crane will be used for beach restoration. Equipment was suppose to start showing up Jan 2nd. The pipe from the ship dredgers is connected at this point, takes a left angle and will head down the center of the new beach. It will run south to the other ferry dock. As they dredge sand and pour it, they keep adding new pipe to extend to the next section. From what I saw in Cancun they should be able to extend this pipe half way to the other ferry dock, before disconnecting everything, move the dredger further south and starting the process all over again. Their goal is to finish this beach between the docks in 5 days. The pipe looks to be 4 or 5 ft in diameter.

For those of you that want to see what some of this has looked like in Cancun.....go look at travelers photos on the following resorts in Cancun.

Royal Cancun (great pic of completed beach if you scroll throught the pics a bit)

Barcelo Tucancun (impressive pics of the sand being shot out of the pipe)

Flamingo Cancun (video and a few good pics)

The finished beaches are amazing......

If they start pouring sand on Jan 8th at Gran Porto Real then they should finish with the beach in front of Hotel Fusion on Jan 10th. All the beach to the Cozumel ferry dock should be poured by Jan 12th. Then they have to remove the huge pipes and then compact and smooth the sand. I'm not sure if they do the entire beach with one pipe or if they split it up. They will start bulldozing by the Gran Porto Real first and work there way towards the Cozumel ferry dock. In Cancun the resort beaches were closed for 5 days on average. If they finish pouring sand on the 12th, they should be completely done with the Playa del Carmen beaches by Jan 17th and in the process of moving all their eqiupment to Sandos Playacar resort to start the project there.

The beach in front of the Gran Porto Real is now separated into three distinct sections. Barriers from building to the water's edge using plastic construction fence are in place.

The 75 foot crane continues to place supplies up next to the Constiuyentes pier.

At the Gran Porto Real they have a skidloader racing around and workers are dis-assembling palapas near the northern end in the area they have fenced off.
