Most stomach upsets passes within 24 hours with immodium, rest and plenty of hydrating fluids like water. But, sometimes god ol mother nature needs a helping hand and in this case a single 500mg dose of Cipro will usually suffice. It's probably best to have a conversation with your doc though because there are alternatives and Cipro isn't always suitable. For example Ciprofloxacin can make you photo sensitive and more prone to sunburn. I speak from bitter experience.

Flagyl and Cipro/Levaquin are the gold standard for GI issues.

Oh, and Imodium is some gooooood stuff. Just make sure to follow directions or you might end up impacted (this is the RN in me coming out). =)

the best medicine is prevention

dont OD on fruity frozen drinks (fruit is a laxative)

dont forget to hydrate with liquids other than liquor

dont gorge on greasy excess food that you dont eat at home...your body will punish you!

You really shouldn't take Imodium when you first get diarrhea either. Your body needs to flush out whatever it is that's making you sick.

Obviously, if you have to fly or something, it's a different story.
