Sandos Playacar Riviera section to beach

Does anyone know if there is a shuttle from lobby to the beach area or is the only way to get there by foot?

There is a shuttle, but it is sporadic at best and its almost faster to walk. Its 12 minutes from meeting point to lobby.

There is a shuttle but nurses is right, you might wait longer to get on it than it would take you to walk. You will get all kind of opinions on how far of a walk it is, from 5 minutes to 15 minutes. I have walked it at least once a year for the past 4 years, I think it is more like a 10-12 minute walk from room to beach. Guess it depends on how fast you walk.

Agree with thollan9, 10-12 minutes tops. When we went in December, we did not see a shuttle for the 7 days we were there!

Thollan-I agree! So much controversy I had my DH bring his iPhone to dinner one time and set the stopwatch. It was 12 minutes from the meeting point to the lobby. Maybe 5 minutes if you are sprinting. :)

I never had a problem getting a shuttle. I think it depends on the time you are there.

if it's low season the shuttle is always waiting for u...during high season it is used more so u may have to wait a little bit...

i'd say about a 7-8 min walk if u r walking w a purpose...we always seem to stop and look at the coatimundi along the path (critters that kinda look like a cross between a raccoon & monkey but r friendly ) or we end up talking to ppl along the way -THEN i'd say it becomes a 12 min walk... it's a nice walk too-mostly shady...

The golf cart shuttles were used so much on our trip if you sat on the back you could feel the heat just radiating like crazy off of it...wondered a few times if it would make it up the hill to the check in lobby with all the weight it had to haul! Never an issue catching either a golf cart or the van though in early Aug.

Just to add:

We have been there 9x. I run across this info some time ago and have updated it as of our last stay April 2011. Have stayed at 8 other resorts in the area. Plus Sandos Caracol (sister resort).

The Sandos Playacar resort hotel located within a gated community and is the last resort in the community. Is divided in three sections, which are the following:

1. SANDOS PLAYACAR BEACH - this is the original part of the resort that includes Standard rooms over looking the pool and jungle and their Select Club Ocean View rooms. The Standard rooms were refurbished recently and include new bathrooms new air conditioning units and general make over of the room. The rooms were fully refurbished to the Standard of our new hotel section. The Standard rooms and the Select Club rooms can only accommodate only up to families of 4. Includes Royal Club beach front rooms. This section has elevators and standard rooms have showers only.

2. SANDOS HACIENDAS - This area is in the middle of the resort set between lush tropical gardens and vegetation and is more suited to those looking for a more private experience. Haciendas section comprises 12 buildings of ten individual junior suites, two stories tall and includes its own private pool. This area of the hotel is quiet and is geared to those looking for a private peaceful vacation. Plus four Royal Elite Haciendas and two “Select Club” with hot tubs.

3. SANDOS RIVIERA - Check-in lobby. This is their newest section in the rear of the resort that opened 2007. With an average size of 400sq/ft they are among the biggest rooms in Playacar and include; two person Jacuzzi, plasma TV, king or two queen bed option, sofa bed, modern decor, accommodate up to 5 etc. This area of the hotel is more suited for the person looking for a quiet and sophisticated holiday due to its large areas and ample facilities. With a swim up pool bar, also has a Hotdog and Hamburger stand. This section has elevators.

Here is a Map of the resort: mexicobeachexperts.com/maps/sandos-playacar.… .

Please note that #8 is the Agave Snack bar/ beach grill and the # 7 is the Iztzpalapa Bar and breakfast /lunch/ Ala Carte Mediterranean restaurant.

The Playacar Beach section (which is two buildings located over the beach line) The Haciendas (middle part of the hotel, each Hacienda comprises of ten Junior Suites and its own private pool) and finally the Riviera Section (which is the new part of the hotel located at the front of the property approximately a 5-8 minute walk to the beach). Also have shuttle that runs between the Riviera lobby and the Meeting Point lobby, about every 15 minutes or so.

This resort also has three levels of quest. Basic level is indicated by blue wrist band, “Select Club” is indicated by Gold wrist bands, “Royal Elite” owners/member indicated by Black wrist bands.

icescraper1: Being that you stayed at 8 other hotels, would you pick Sandos over what others you stayed in (for the price of course). We loved it there, but was just curious if there were others that were equally as good...but different.
