Pretty much anything that they will allow on a plane. I can't think of anything other than maybe a blade that you couldn't fly home with.

I select a Christmas tree ornament from each location I visit, makes for such a pretty tree, so "international". :-)

Woven blankets, vanilla, cocoa, leather items, onyx items, mexican silver, wooden carved toys....maybe a Mayan calendar--get one before they're past their expiration date! :-)

The Mayan calendar is a popular pendant on a silver chain. Friend purchased one with the Mayan calendar on one side & the Aztec on the other. I have always wished I had purchased a pendant from each place we've visited.

I have an "old fashioned" charm bracelet. Not into those "beaded" things. After several trips purchasing a ring or a necklace, I decided I just couldn't wear all this stuff or justify the price. Then I started buying a charm from each place I visited. I even had one hand made in Puerto Vallarta (a tip from someone here on TA about a local jeweler). Whenever I wear that charm bracelet, I look at each charm and it brings back many fond memories. I shop in established jewelry shops for these, not trinkets being bartered on the beach.

I try to get something unique to the place I'm visiting. Larimar and amber from the Dominican Republic, a gold Divi tree from Aruba, etc.

The only place I couldn't find one worth buying was Germany. Seemed they had the same charms there as we have here in US. I even have one from Kuwait ( a camel) from my son when was stationed in Iraq.
