'Resort' type pools, etc., but NOT an AI. Does this exist?

We are potentially a party of 8 (ages 15, 22, and 25-54) looking for a resort type property with resort type pools and beach activities in the Playa area that is NOT an AI. Since it is the week between Christmas and New Year's the rates are quite high and spending 300+ per person per night is a bit steep since we like to try many different local restaurants when we travel. I have researched hours and hours and the place that seems to fit the bill is the Royal Hacienda's but of course it is full.

We recently stayed at the Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta and the teenagers had such a great time with so much offered right at the property, and it was not an AI which is what we wanted. I am happy with a couple of condo units at El Faro (which is where I am guessing we will end up as I don't think the other exists) but before I commit he would like to see what some other options might be, and quite frankly, I can't come up with any, so I think I will just have a margarita instead.

If you have any other suggestions, I would appreciate it. All of my research is worthy of a siesta, that's for sure.

Thanks!

Try this message board-http://royalresortowners.ning.com/

You may be able to rent units directly from owners at the Royal Haciendas.

Christmas to New Years is high high season in Playa. Condohotels controls 5 different properties. They have one 4 bedroom at El Taj Beachside that would fit your criteria. They have several 3 bedrooms.

They also have one 4 bedroom condo.

The pool at El Taj, while a very nice condo complex, can't be described as a "resort type pool" - it's hardly a dipping pool. The pool at El Faro is much bigger but it's still not like what you would find at a resort. That does not exist at an on beach condo complex in Playa (you'd have to go outside of the main part of Playa, i.e. Royal Haciendas).

Those staying at El Taj Oceanside can use the larger pool at El Taj Beachside and visa versa. But, I hear what you are saying Chris, some of the AI pools are huge.

Let us know jblair if any of these places have room in the inn. It's nuts at Christmas time. You may have to look at the next layer of condos.

We have decided to stay at El Faro. We have a great unit with a great view and were lucky enough to find the unit next to it too. I just had to set my husband's mind at ease. He will be fine once he is there, how could he not be?

Thanks!
