It is a middle of the hurricane season in the area - it runs till the end of Nov., but I am not aware of any currently active hurricane.

Or here's another link to the National Hurricane Center

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

It's good to keep up to date on what's happening in the area particularly if you're travelling at this time of the year.

There is no hurricane/tropical storm in the area at this time. There are some remnants of what was a tropical storm (it was torn apart by wind shear) nearby, but that is common for this time of year. Looking out the window, it is a little overcast. Had a really nice thunderstorm last night, though. Kabooom!

Eagleeye1, I booked for the end of September and have been watching 3 websites for the last 3 weeks: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/, http://www.wunderground.com/ and, weather.com/weather/hurricanecentral/tracker

all 3 sites seem to show storms brewing off Africa for a week before they develop and hit. However that does not mean one won't pop up out of nowhere. I believe Mark S. has mentioned the possibility of that in other posts.I booked during hurricane season because that is when I have vacation time. It also helps that there are some good deals. I plan to watch these sites and be prepared when I am down in Playa del Carmen. Hope for the best but be prepared if a storm comes.
