Can anyone tell me if the Walmart if Playa del Carmen is a big Walmart with food sections not only houseware?
It's a big Wal Mart with food, houseware and many other consumer items. Very typical of the Wal Marts in the U.S.
Yes typical of US ... plus a great selection of Tequila at discount prices.Edited: 07 November 2012, 21:27
Yes, plenty food, some familiar, some not so much. (maybe to you though :)
It looks like a Walmart big box store in the USA with the same Chinese goods.
I would suggest you support a Mexican company such as Mega which is very close to Walmart. I usually find better quality and prices at Mega.
I second Robert's suggestion of visiting Mega instead of Wal-Mart. It's the same type of store but much cleaner and nicer in my opinion.
Also, Wal-Mart has timeshare people trying to get you to sign up for a presentation. I haven't encountered any timeshare people at Mega.
The timeshare people at Wal Mart masquerade as employees, dark blue shirt et al, which they are not.
At Mega Mart they hang out near the front of the store and try to give you a cart and then strike up a conversation.
Both are equally obnoxious. My job is to engage them, annoy them and keep them off other shoppers back. They are sport for me. My wife just rolls her eyes at my aberrant behavior.
I've been in Mega and Walmart in Playa Del Carmen. I personally like Walmart way better than Mega. I found more selection for what I wanted at Walmart. They have a very large grocery section. Lot's of seafood and big bakery. We stop there every year while on vacation.

too funny - do they know you on sight now
It's more socially responsible to support local small business, which is what I try to do here and on vacation. Hell will freeze over before I set foot in Walmart.Edited: 08 November 2012, 04:19
