On the Island by Tracey Garvis Graves...perfect beach read! I also liked the Heather Wardell Toronto series, although not necessarily for the beach.

Beach or not.... Gone girl by Gillian Flynn. Or Wild by Cheryl Strayed or anything by Harlin Cobin

I think James Patterson books are best for vacation. They are usually very good and I like the short chapters since I hate it when I have to wait for my wife to get to the end of her chapter before we can go to lunch, a walk, etc. when she has 23 pages to go.

I also really liked Gone Girl, The Island, and Secret Daughter.

My favourite beach reads though are quite light....I just downloaded books 18 and 19 of the Janet Evanovich 'Stephanie Plum' bounty hunter series for our upcoming trip to my Kindle. I love them, they are hilarious and easy reads, perfect for the beach.

If you don't mind something heavier, I am almost done Cloud Atlas and it is very good, original and fascinating ....but too in depth for me for the beach.

And don't forget "Jaws." Perfect for setting the mood for a nice swim. :0)
