Another Reason to Depart Early for the Airport

Area teachers continue with their demonstrations rather than teaching the children. In the latest move, they blocked all traffic on the Playa to Cancun highway for more than an hour on Thursday. I am sure this created many problems for those not leaving early for the airport. Many things can happen with traffic--it pays to allow extra time:

If our flight leave at 4:15pm and we are staying at the Occendental Grand Xcaret in Playa Del Carmen when do you recommend we leave the hotel? I had planned on being at the airport 2 hours before take off to get through security and all. Is leaving the hotel around 1pm plenty of time (hour there , 2 hours at airport before take off)? First time flying and out of the states .

Early morning flights can adjust their times a little. Check with your specific airline to see what time their check in desk opens. I will guess 5 am for yours.

Agree MN. And at that time, very light traffic and little chance anyone such as the teachers will be out blocking the highway. They should still all be sleeping

You might want to continue to allow extra time to reach the airport. The teachers were at it again yesterday, delaying traffic for short periods. But it could be worse. Yesterday, it was reported teachers blocked the Merida- Campeche highway for hours.

We booked USA transfers this time. Originally they wanted to pick us up at the Grand Sunset Princess at 9:30am for a 12:15 flight. I did change it to 9, but I am concerned. Last March we got picked up on a nonstop 3hours 30 minutes before our flight, but we had a long wait at the airport before our flight.

LOL maybe its just preflight jitters, but I am second guessing the pickup time.
