Is it better to bring USD or Peso. What do the staff in thr RPDC prefer to be tipped with. If you use USD in 5th avenue do they use hefty exchange rates.

Thanks

1. Re: money

Since you have to exchange your money anyway it is simpler to just deal with pesos. Staff will prefer 1 dollar to 10 pesos of course (since it is worth more) but generally pesos are preferred as well as being universally accepted. You can make do with dollars but will lose anything up to 25% on the exchange rate.

If you are getting pesos anyway tip the staff at your resort with them.

Why not just use pesos for everything?

If you have lots of small US bills in your pocket, sure

Why use 2 different currencies

Is US$ in Ireland better for tipping

US Bills get & stay wet, whereas the $20 peso is water proof.

Pesos. Pesos. Only bring US dollars if you need to get rid of them. Love those waterproof 20 and 50 pesos notes CoosBay. I'm starting to see more of the waterproof 100 pesos notes.

No we would have to change sterling to dollars or pesos. Its just I heard staff prefer being tipped dollars. But if they dont mind pesos I will just exchange to the one currency. Is everything in 5th avenue etc all priced in pesos.

Thanks

If you give them US$1.00 or 10 pesos they'll prefer the US, if you give them 20 pesos instead they'll prefer the pesos. We use 20/50/100 peso notes for tipping.

"Its just I heard staff prefer being tipped dollars."

Probably because many people who use dollars tend to think in terms of the ratio of 10 to 1 as compared to pesos. Which in turn means that staff get more value when such people tip in dollars rather than in pesos. But recipients prefer not a certain currency, they prefer higher value.

Quite a few stores on 5th Avenue will show prices in pesos, usd and occasionally €. I have never noticed a sign showing £. It seems every shopkeeper on 5th Ave has an app on his phone that shows the current exchange rates.

When you get off 5th Avenue the prices are primarily pesos.
