Best exchange rate?

Is it best to get our pesos here at home or at the airport, hotel etc? Who will give us the best rate?

Thanks

At your home bank you will in most cases get the best exchange rate. Stay away from airport exchange booths. As well as exchanging money at hotel receptions.

A bank in PDC. You need a copy of your passport they will keep. Next best is cambios around town. They will take 50 dollar bills. I dont use plastic in Mexico

Cambio is a currency exchange shop.

Their rates are around 12 to 1 in Tulum - assume the rate is close or slightly higher in PDC

Some banks at home give terrible rates and then charge an extra fee

ATMs in MX are the best to use and give rates above 12.5 to 1

Keep in mind when using mx ATMs. They all have a 7.5 peso charge as well as your bank will often charge you 1.5 - 3% foreign exchange fee per transaction.

Rates vary from bank to bank.

Went to a local bank here in MA, our own bank...cost $5.00 to convert $300.00 or more and $15.00 to convert less than $300.00. Took two days for the money to be available (might be better at a big bank, mine is a local bank) and the rates were current.
