Yes!!!!!....you can see how its in playa del carmen right now!!!, take a look!!!!
Yep, it's been there quite a while.
There is also this one:
Corrionero- WOW that beach looks fantastic! We're just starting to plan a last minute trip for Xmas and thinking of PDC because we hear the beaches are beautiful. Anyone know where this stretch is. I'd like to be there....but out of the range of the camera of course.
Xcptnl- I remember you guys from the Aruba forum. Were you staying at the Bucuti? Have you been there (or here) yet? We'll be there in Nov and are hoping to find something similiar here. Any suggestions?
The webcam is at the Shangrla-La resort north of Playa between Coco beach to the north and Las Palapas to the south.
Nice beach but I am afraid this area is the site of the next building boom. Last year when we were down there the surveyors were running all over the place.
It seems to get hit by the storms a lot in this area or maybe the structures are not as good. When you get there the area looks a litle beat up. However the beach is good and the water shallow for quite a ways out. You can see the fishing boats in the distance that are tied up.
You all missed it.....about a year ago (I think), a lady would lay on her beach chair all day - topless. But she really should have had a top on!
Island Devil - we went to Aruba last year in November and stayed at the Manchebo and loved it!!! This year we will be going to PDC with 2 other couples and I surely hope we will enjoy it as much as Aruba - it's hard not to have a good time anywhere in the Caribbean. We are booked for the Riu Palace Riviera Maya - in fact made our final payment today!! I will post a trip report when we get back.
Hi Xcptnl. Thanks for the scoop. Can I ask, what attracted you to the Riu Palace? I've never been to PDC or stayed at an AI and I'm trying to narrow it down. A fantastic beach is the # 1 priority. Thanks.
Island Devil - I just started researching using all the PDC message boards/trip reviews I could find. We also were looking for a good beach area, not in town, but close and that's how we ended up with the Riu. The one we are staying at is the newer one - it's still getting mixed reviews but overall favorable. We will get access to the all the other Rius - bars, etc (except at night and the reservation only ones) so that gives us some flexibility. I think this site helps alot and here are a few others:
Good luck in your search!
Just to clarify a bit. The beach at the Shangri La is the best beach in the area, spent many hours there in September. This resort actually does not get hit with storms any more than anywhere else in this area but because they are directly on the beach they will show more effects for a longer time than the larger buildings that are typical for the AI's in Playa.
As for construction it is going on all over town, there is really no avoiding it. Playa is not only recovering from a devestating hurricane, remember Wilma? but is growing to accomodate all of us who have fallen in love with this area.
The website with the webcam at Shangrila is a great source for researching this area. I suggest you use it if planning a trip.
