Just back from our Tulum stay in the pueblo at Mariposa (see review). Used Puerto del Cielo as our beach club and just loved it! I don't know where else to post this review because I was unable to find them under hotels, even though they certainly have cabanas to rent. Are they super new?
Anyway, we picked this place to use as our beach club after printing up the beach club article on sacbe website. It was only a 50 peso, 10 minute cab ride from town. We were always able to hail a cab back as well.
Things we liked: gorgeous beach, club and setting. Everything was new looking and well kept. Very pretty and natural looking architecture and design. Palapas and loungers were widely spaced so you weren't too close to your neighbors. Not crowded at all- like you had whole place to yourself. In contrast, Playa Azul right next door seemed crowded, cluttered, and a big "scene".
The same gal, Blanca, helped us each day. She was attentive and always seemed to come by when we needed another. Oh, and it is 2 for one happy hour all day. Beers 40 pesos, Margaritas 70.
Facilities. Very nice main palapa restaurant/bar. Very nice restrooms, showers. Tiny plunge pool that was very refreshing after a swim in the sea.
The food was generally so so (guac and ceviche were better) and expensive, but that is pretty much the way it is at the beach.
The cabanas looked small but cute from the outside (did not see inside), but at 150/night, they are more than we are willing to pay.
It was a wonderful place to experience Tulum's beach.
