Sian Ka'an in June

Has anyone done one of the tours in June? How early can you start (can you arrange these on your own or are pre-set)? Is the heat manageable at this time of year, or should we leave it for a different trip?

I took a 9 AM boat tour & float trip in the Sian Ka'an with Cesiak (twice in fact.) It couldn't be more refreshing on a hot day.

our tour was quite different. no canal float, mediocre food cafeteria style, free beverage-- water, and some super sweet drink. no mayan culture offered. beware! make it worth that grueling 2.5 hour ride on the 'broken road'

please be forewarned. we booked through our agent, and so disappointed. looked forward to the muyil float-- not available. the food-- cafeteria mush. quick look at a dolphin and a turtle. again. no floating down the luxurious river! and the 2.5 hr grueling trip over the 'broken road' -- picked up at 7:30 am and home at 9pm. too bad for us!

be sure to use www.cesiak.org for a good trip! we used them and have a very good experience.

if you book them directly the tour is cheaper than through your hotel because the hotels take a commission.

Sorry to hijack, but would this be suitable for a non swimmer?

Yes. The canal float is totally optional. Sounds like someone had a disappointing experience above (went with only what their agent told them) - book on your own with Cesiak.

The float is done with some inflatable life ring. So you don't need to swim. And you can catch a ride with the boat and captain if you don't want to do it.

There are different tours in Sian Ka'an. Cesiak runs boat & kayak eco tours from their headquarters in the biosphere. Other companies run jeep convoys (very non eco) on the long bumpy road to Punta Allen for a snorkel trip to the reef. I highly recommend the Cesiak tours.

Yes, please avoid those bloody Jeep tours! I can't even imagine they're any kind of fun, basically just driving down a long, bumpy and very dusty road in a long chain of other vehicles. You'd be covered in dust and hearing only other Jeeps. How much fun is that?
