Villa Touloulou?

Anybody hear of this place and have any thoughts on location/facilities? No reviews on TA, but a few very good reviews on Booking.com.

Price is very good, room/facilities look very nice -- feels like I'm missing something.

Looking for accommodations for a 4 day first-time visit to the island in a couple of weeks. Not interested in all-inclusive, and having difficulty finding a nice place within a reasonable budget of $150-200/night.

Deciding between Trade Winds Hotel and Villa Touloulou at this point - unless anything else becomes available.

I don't know touloulou, other than that it's very new, not easy to get to and has no pool yet. Tradewinds is at the opposite end of the island, and is a popular choice for business and short term visitors. Not on the beach and a very small pool area.

I'd include a couple of others in your search.

Catamaran Hotel at Falmouth (great location for the south) - http://www.catamaran-antigua.com/index.php

Siboney Hotel at Dickenson (right on the beach at Dickenson Bay) - http://www.siboneybeachantigua.com/

Buccaneer Beach Club (almost next door to Siboney and just lovely) http://www.buccaneerbeach.com/

Admirals Inn (right in historic Nelson's Dockyard) - http://admiralsantigua.com/

Copper and Lumber Store (also in Dockyard) - www.copperandlumberhotel.com/index.php?p=h

Otherwise, if you're not interested in AI (and good for you for staying away from the obvious), there are some great villas available, many of which will happily accommodate shorter stays. Jolly Harbour's a good bet - look at www.typicallytropicalvillas.com to see what's there, but English Harbour/Falmouth is more lively at this time of year and offers a huge choice of places to eat and drink.

All of these are within your budget - a villa / apartment will typically be less.

I have been inside Touloulou more than a year ago, so it may have changed since then. However the view hasn't, and it is spectacular, probably worth more than the 'villa' itself! When I saw it it was several rental apartments, and IMO too dark inside with quite low ceilings. However the outside verandahs were nice and I guess most of your time would be spent on them enjoying the vista! It is fairly high up the side of the hill and I think you would need a car rental. No beach within walking distance certainly. Hope this helps.

I should add that there is now an Asian style restaurant/cafe with the same name on/near the villas. Although I did not try it I have heard a few people say it was good, so you would have somewhere to eat close by. Also not far from Cambusa restaurant.

Thank you both.

Mizgeorge, appreciate the recommendations. We are traveling during the busy Presidents Week holiday in the States, so I believe I've actually checked all of your suggestions, only to find them fully booked. Thus our choices are bit limited.

We have 3 full days on the island, and expect they will be spent: 1) scuba/snorkel outing, 2) explore the island via car, and 3) half exploration/half beach relations. We're not the type to sit on the beach for 3-4 days straight, so not necessary to be right on the beach. Ok to have a place with nice views but requires a short drive to nearby amenities/restaurants.

Are there more amenities (beach, restaurants, etc) walkable from Trade Winds than Touloulou?

I must point out that Touloulou is not in the middle of nowhere! If you are renting a car, then you are less than a 10 minute drive from English Harbour, loads of restaurants and lots of yachts! Nothing is more than 50 minutes drive from anywhere in Antigua. I think that Touloulou sounds like good value.

What about 3 Martini? Better option than Touloulou or Trade Winds? While we don't require it, we like most people enjoy a short stroll to the beach.

We will have a car with us to explore the island no matter which option we go with.

3 Martini is an interesting little spot, but very much more basic than either of the others you're looking at.
