Curious about a med from Chelo's pharmacy

When we were there this past winter my husband got a really nasty cold/flu - he seldom gets sick but this put him down for over a week. I went to Chelo's and she gave me some medication - cough meds and a couple of other meds - cost me $75 for the lot! I just found the empty box of one of the meds and looked it up. It looks like it's an antiobiotic - it's called Zertalin 500mg. Just wondering if this would have been a prescription drug in U.S. or Canada?? Won't be telling my husband it was an antibiotic and he is dead set against using them!

Don't tell your husband, but . . . Zertalin is a relatively new antiobiotic in the eritromicine family. It's generally prescribed for respiratory infections.

Really not smart to take unprescribed antibiotics: have you ever looked at what happened in the EE.UU. when pediatricians and family docs gave antibiotics like Valium?

Welcome to MRSA (and god knows what other critters).

When I went to Chelo's I have to plead to some ignorance. I really thought I would be getting "holistic" meds as I had no prescription and he hadn't even seen a doctor. I had no clue (but certainly should have!) that this was an anti-biotic! My husband is vehemently opposed to antiobiotics and was too sick to think about what he was taking...I'm just curious as to how they can sell prescription drugs over the counter?

They are obviously not prescription drugs in Mexico. Not everywhere is the U.S. In Mexico people are allowed to assume responsibility for their own medication.

Treating yourself is dumber than dirt.

Treating your family is worse.
