Getting from San M to the springs?

What's the best way to get to the hot springs from San Miguel? And does anyone have a favorite springs locale?

thanks!

There is a good feature in the Spring edition of El Mapa SMdA (a free quarterly with great maps) describing each of the Balnearios. La Gruta (smaller and quieter) is probably most popular among adults, but there is something for everyone.

Best to drive or take a taxi, but the local buses are very inexpensive and will let you off at your choice along the road to Dolores Hidalgo.

We took cab to bus station, got return ticket on local bus to La Gruta. Driver dropped us off right across the street from the Springs. When we were ready to leave, we just walked back out to highway and waited on the side of the road. Bus picked us up within 10 mins. No problems and cheapest way. Heard story from some people at the springs that a taxi driver said the buses didn't go there and he drove them for an exhorbitant amount of pesos. By the way, food is very good at the Hot Springs cafe.

If you go on Sat or Sun, the "Pork" restaurant about 1/2 way there is excellent.

I've been wanting to ask - if you just want to take the bus to the "pork place", where would you ask to get off? What would your ticket destination be? And is it near the highway where the bus lets you off? I've heard about this place but can't figure out if it's an outdoor tent thing or an actual restaurant? Any info about it would be much appreciated for my trip next year. It sounds like something we'd like to do one weekend. Thanks.

cc,

It's a restaurant on the left heading out of town about 1/2 way to Candelaria on the road to Dolores Hildalgo. There is a gate entrance and inside parking.

It's way better than Apolo XI and you may bring your own salad and wine.

The carnitas (pork loin by the kg) and beans are great and they have beer (Indio is good) and soft drinks - all at bargain prices.

Lo siento cc,

Just tell the bus driver you are going to El Restaurante de Cerdo (o Puerco). There is a large pig painted on the entrance wall. Maybe $4. pesos.
