**Mexican Independence Day** - info for September 15th

For those who will be in Cabo for this event, here´s a little information......

There are two main events, one in Cabo and one in San Jose. Both are on the night of September 15th. The following day, on the 16th, there will be parades through both towns

Cabo San Lucas: The main event is held at the plaza in front of the main delegation, on the road to Chedraui and Soriana grocery stores. The plaza is highly decorated, with a main stage for live music all night long. There are food booths and beer booths ringing the plaza and people tend to watch and dance in the crowded plaza. The traditional "grito", or shout of independence happens around 11pm, followed by fireworks and more music. Expect very large crowds and next to impossible parking. Take a taxi.

San Jose del Cabo: This event is more traditional and truly something to see. I´ll be at this one. The seat of local government for Los Cabos is in San Jose and the Mayor of Los Cabos will deliver the traditional "shout" of independence. Expect the entire historic center of San Jose to be packed with people, food booths, beer and mixed drink booths, multiple stages for music, carnival rides, etc. It really is a much more Mexican affair than in San Lucas. If driving, I´d park at Mega and walk or take a taxi

Here´s a video of last year´s event. You´ll see the mayor ringing the bell and declaring independence. In this video, you´ll also see traditional "castillos", which are structures that light up with fireworks, spinning and sparking. Truly unique and very Mexican. This scene is repeated in every town throughout Mexico and is really a special event to be a part of.

Last year was the 200th anniversary of Mexican Independence and the 100th anniversary of the Mexican revolution, which may have caused the confusion. There was some major celebrating for both in 2010

But yes, this year Mexico will be celebrating 201 years of independence!
