Tianguis Turistico: Cabo Preps for Slew of Luxury Openings

Luxury is rising in Los Cabos. Travel Agent attended a Los Cabos press conference at the 39th annual Tianguis Turistico, where we heard from Renato Mendonca, the president of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, as well as Ruben Reachi, secretary of tourism for Baja California Sur and Eduardo Segura, managing director of Los Cabos Tourism Board.

According to the trio, Los Cabos is looking to position itself as a top destination for luxury travel in Mexico, and with the upcoming hotel pipeline it seems like they are on track.

Next year Los Cabos is scheduled to open a Thompson Cabo San Lucas with 115 rooms, The Resort at Diamante, which will have 120 units over three phases, the Park Hyatt, with 196 guest rooms and 36 residences, the Ritz-Carlton Reserve, with 124 villas and the JW Marriott, with 300 rooms.

There are currently 14,000 hotel rooms in Los Cabos and 1,300 are in development. There are also 12 golf courses with two more under construction.

“I think the market recognizes the quality and services that we have in Los Cabos,” says Reachi. “We are working hard to have more flights to Los Cabos and our airlift is growing fast. We have grown almost 11 percent this year versus last year. Last year we grew 14 percent over 2012. If you have the quality of hotels and human resources that we have, our visitors can be our best ambassadors.”

Jenn...... The JW Marriott is being built and is half finished next to the Secrets Puerto Los Cabos which is in San Jose near that Marina. I believe the Ritz is going next to that also.

Thanks! I wish they would put some Marriott timeshares in CSL. That would be perfect for us!

The Marriott was originally being built in Quivera. Thats the new PB development going in next to the PB Pacifica. They pulled out as did the Ritz Carelton, and now both those hotels are in the Puerto los Cabos section of San Jose.

San Diego Sur,Baja Las Vegas,San Diego South,Whatever you call it,You cannot stop progress. You can join the Mexican exodus moving to nearby towns for lower prices.Officially Norteamericanos already make up 37% of the CSL resident population.Soon they will become a minority and I guess you could raise the Stars and Stripes in Plaza Wilkes then

True, Mijo-but there is little room left-except for expanding what they are already doing! I expect they will 'develop' as much of that area as is humanly possible :(

I agree, Attilla-if I didn't "own" my two weeks where I do, I'd definitely be spending my limited time up LB way at this point! I love the local people I've met in Cabo, but it is just getting way too commercial to be my 'cup of tea'.
