Denver airport in Feb

I think I know the answer to my question - but want some input for those that have travelled these airports.

We are going the first week of February and I'm starting to look at flights and finding some screaming good deals! Best flight times (but <$100 cheaper so not a big deal) are flying through Denver. I can avoid Denver with San Diego and/or Phoenix. We've only flown through Phoenix for Mexico with no issues and customs is a breeze.

I'm figuring it's worth the less than desirable flight times because of the possibility of bad weather in February in Denver?

Thanks!

Just about any time between October and the spring tornado season could find the Denver airport shut down or flights delayed by weather. We try to avoid it at all costs; same for Chicago and Salt Lake City during winter months.

I agree-it can be dicey, but you could consider booking for a day ahead-just in case-would mean an extra Cabo night if you got stuck (oh drat ;) Personally, I'd try to avoid Denver.

I did Frontier last year...both down and back thru Denver. The airport had been closed for 2 days , but my flight went the 3rd day...and I had 55 minutes to catch the next flight...it was at the next gate...lucky, as I was 45 minutes late leaving Minneapolis! We had over 300 people waiting for standbys on this flight...had been sleeping in the airport apparently.

Coming home customs/immigration was a nitemare...took over 2.5 hours to stand in line, and wait and wait...a total disaster. Then I found out that all the flights to Minneapolis were cancelled as we were in the middle of a horrible blizzard. BUT Frontier got one flight out of Denver to MSP...and it was the one I was ticketed on...so I got home...about 2AM...and the waiting list was pages long for that flight...only to get to MSP and trying to figure out how I was ever going to get home.

Thinking NO Denver this winter!!! But I kept on thinking about the almost $500 less for my round trip ticket...and the Delta flight to MSP I would have been booked on...sat in Denver for 2 days...who knows when I would have gotten home by spending the $500 more to fly Delta!!! SO....it all depends on what is happening both at your home airport, Denver...and other storms that affect the airlines...

Gonna check on rates...and only way I will fly thru Denver is if it is way cheap...to cover a nite or three of a hotel!!!

Wow! OK I thought as much, but glad I checked. My husband didn't enjoy having half a day to kill the morning before we left this trip - we just ended up getting hot at sweaty walking around town haha ;) Flight to Denver leaves at 12:45pm which the others leave closer to 5pm. He'll have to suck it up. Denver is only $70 cheaper TravelJudy so absolutely not worth the headache of a potentially missed or delayed flight.

Anyone been through customs in San Diego? I can have a longer or shorter lay over in Phoenix (shorter is 1.5hours) We did customs and security and the whole bit in an hour this year...)
