Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach

There is a group of us going August 12-19, trying to decide whether to rent a car or use shuttles and/or taxis to get to restaurants, bars etc. there will be 5 of us for a while and 7 of us for a few days. We will be staying at the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach. We are not doing the AI.

We're here now and prefer to have a car. You're slave enough to the golf carts here - I wouldn't want to be tied to the shuttle too. Taxis are plentiful though. Easy to catch one at PBSB and throughout town. Really a personal choice.

You use the free shuttle from PBSB to the sister resorts on Medano Beach...from there you can walk to the marina and downtown...

A very nice perk:)) You save the taxi fees..

If there is someone in your party who wants to be responsible for driving, then renting a car may work well for you. But, shuttles do run often, although, we had a hard time booking one, but we were also there during the heart of spring break, very busy. Taxis are about $12 into town, each way. Depending on how large your party is, it might only be a few bucks for each ride. I stayed at PBSB in April and we did go into town every night, but because we like to partake in a few beverages, taxis worked well for us. Have fun!

The Taxis are all Vans and carry 8 easily. The taxi cost will bring from 1 to 4 people for the same price a small addition charge for each person more than 4.

The transportation back and forth from airport for 7 people will knock off a HUGE portion of the car rental cost. Problem is a 7 passenger rental is way more then 2 small cars. At first I was nervous but now I ALWAYS rent a car (or two).

Because you are at sunset you can park for free at Blanco and walk downtown or park at the mall (most expensive) or the parking garage which is cheap.

Having a car gives you so much freedom too go to other beaches (chileno, santa maria) go to San Jose art district for dinner / drinks, check out todos santos, go to the human society, walmart trips for the kitchen at sunset. etc etc. Cant imagine not having one.

What car rental company did you use?

What did you do about the $40 a day for insurance?

We were totally scammed by Hertz 2 years ago and had a great experience with Budget renting in La Paz and driving to Cabo and Loreto for 2 weeks.

There has been a lot of chatter about rental companies. You can see all the posts if you put "Car Rentals' in the search tab. Most of the regular visitors to Cabo use Alamo, BBB, Cactus, and Dominicloscabos.com These companies are honest and will give you a quote including all insurance if you ask. Tell them you saw their name on Trip Advisor, and Ask for the Trip Advisor rate!

Expect to pay $200 to $350 a week for a compact car (Which includes ALL insurance) depending on what time of year you visit. Don't wait till the last minute to reserve a car. You have better choices when you reserve early.
