You might want to read this -it's a previous "Montreal vs Toronto" discussion.

It's hard to suggest which one without knowing what your interests are and what you like to do when you're on vacation.

Also, you'll have to do a little bit of research to see what Toronto and Montreal are all about. Even the official tourism websites would give you a brief overview and the differences would soon become obvious.

Just knowing that you're from New York, I picked Montreal over Toronto because it would be the most different from New York - it's a bilingual city.

Yes, I am a Montrealer and am therefore biased, but I would also suggest Montreal on the simple basis of time.

Travel time between Montreal and New York is significantly shorter than New York and Toronto. If you want to come down for a weekend and you're not flying, you don't want to waste too much time travelling, right?

Mtl-NYC

by train: 10hrs+ (approx)

by car: 7hrs+ (approx)

TO-NYC

by train: 13hrs+ (approx)

by car: 11hrs+ (approx)
